Gori is by far most famous for being the birthplace of Stalin. This is supposedly his birthouse, moved into the centre of town with an ornate Italianate pavillion covering it. This was done in 1937, so while Stalin was very much alive, by eminant sycophant and torturer Beria. It sits outside the Stalin museum, which is a little weird, but with so little curation notes, you don't actually come away feeling anyone is trying to sell Stalin to you, more that they didn't want their connection to someone famous forgotten.
